NIS2 Directive: what is it?
On October 24, the Council of Ministers approved the proposal to transpose the NIS2 Directive, a fundamental step in consolidating cybersecurity in Portugal and throughout the European Union. This directive, which updates and expands the scope of the NIS currently in force, reflects the European commitment to strengthening cyber defenses and ensuring the resilience of essential sectors.
The implementation of NIS2 is at different stages among Member States. Countries such as Belgium, Croatia and Hungary have already completed transposition and formalized the adaptation of their national regulations, while others, such as Austria, France and Germany, are still in the legislative approval process. This variation illustrates the challenges and the urgency of standardizing cybersecurity practices across Europe.
The NIS2 Directive expands its coverage to critical sectors such as healthcare, energy, transport, finance and digital infrastructure, requiring more robust information security measures.
”The aim is to ensure a common, high level of protection, promoting knowledge and awareness of the importance of network and information system security

NIS2 underlines the need for a strategic view of cybersecurity, obliging organizations to adapt behaviors and strengthen control over their data and processes. In line with this vision, INCENTEA is organizing a series of informational and training events on the subject. The next meeting will take place in Braga on November 14, where experts will discuss the impacts and requirements of the NIS2 Directive for organizations.
”INCENTEA, attentive to the changes and challenges imposed by NIS2, has strengthened its cybersecurity team, equipping it with multidisciplinary skills ranging from the technological side to the legal and consulting scope. This investment allows INCENTEA to offer a complete approach that includes risk analysis and management, as well as the assessment of measures and best practices.
