The future is not found. It is created.

There are phrases that stay with us through life and suddenly come to mind. Life isn’t about finding yourself, it is about creating yourself marked my teenage years.

Years later, I realize it may not speak only about people. It also speaks about organizations.

We have become used to looking at the future as something to be discovered. We study trends, anticipate skills, analyze generations, ask what work will look like tomorrow. All of that is necessary. But it may not be enough. Because the future is not just a place we are heading toward. It is also something we choose to build.
I like reading what Byung-Chul Han writes about our current society: tired, accelerated, with no room for contemplation. And perhaps that is one of the risks of our time: we are so busy reacting to what changes that we have stopped imagining what we want to transform. We adapt a lot. We authorize ourselves very little.
At work, this is decisive. Artificial intelligence can produce answers, speed up processes, suggest paths. But there is still a question that no technology answers for us: why? That is where authorship begins. In the ability to choose a direction, to give meaning to what we do, to not be merely executors of tasks or consumers of the future.
And when, at the end of The Matrix, Agent Smith asks Neo why he keeps fighting, the answer is simple: “because I choose to”. Not as an act of resistance, but of purpose. And it is that choice that changes everything.
In a world focused on anticipating, perhaps the real difference lies in those who still know the importance of choosing. Choosing to create, rather than merely adapt. Choosing to question, rather than merely comply. Choosing to challenge in order to build futures that do not yet exist.
There is a key idea in INCENTEA’s DNA that has always made sense to me: we are People with solutions. And that means more than solving the present. It means listening to what is coming, but also having the courage to write it. Because the future of work is not already defined, waiting to be found. It will be imagined and created by those who, like us, decide how they want to design it.
